What the official page says
Source: Rights and Resources (Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General), Lemon Law section (read 2026-10-17). This is a summary of that page, not the statute. Exact tests, exclusions and deadlines are on the official page and in the statute, and may have changed.
- The document says the Pennsylvania Automobile Lemon Law applies to any new vehicle purchased and registered in Pennsylvania for personal or family use designed to transport up to 15 persons; motorcycles, motor homes and off-road vehicles are not included.
- It says the manufacturer must repair any defect that substantially impairs use, value or safety and occurs within one year after delivery, or 12,000 miles, or the terms of the express warranty, whichever comes first.
- It says that if the defect cannot be repaired after three attempts, or the vehicle is out of service for a total of 30 calendar days for repair, you may generally be eligible for a replacement or refund of the purchase price less a limited allowance for use.
- It says to contact the manufacturer's zone representative first, then you may request arbitration through the manufacturer's dispute settlement program if one exists; the decision is binding on the manufacturer but not on the consumer.
- The Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection page says it mediates consumer complaints (see the Public Protection Division page).
Numbers the page states
| Item | As stated on the official page |
|---|---|
| Repair attempts | 3 |
| Out of service | 30 calendar days total |
| Time/miles | 1 year, 12,000 miles, or warranty term (whichever first) |
Counting rules differ (calendar days vs. business days, what counts as a repair attempt). Use the repair log tool to organize dates, then confirm how your state counts.
Industry arbitration program summary (not a government source)
BBB National Programs, which runs the BBB AUTO LINE dispute program, publishes a state summary: BBB AUTO LINE: Pennsylvania lemon law summary (link checked 2026-10-17). It is published by an industry-linked program, so treat it as a starting point and confirm against the state's own page or statute.
What to do first
- Keep every repair order and receipt. See the records checklist.
- Write down dates and mileage for each repair visit with the repair log tool (nothing is saved or sent).
- Read the federal warranty basics and arbitration pages.
- Consider speaking with a licensed attorney in your state about deadlines. Many have free consultations, but we do not recommend any specific one.
